Dynamiq Engineering was recently engaged to carry out a detailed finite element analysis of the structural dynamics of the two key grandstands at the London 2012 Olympic Park. The assessment was carried out to the latest IStructE code of practise 'Dynamic performance requirements for permanent grandstands subject to crowd action'.
Structural dynamic phenomena can be particularly demanding to manage in large flexible structures subject to aggressive crowd action such as sporting events or music concerts. Expert design and analysis is required to ensure that structural dynamic problems do not manifest themselves late on in the development process, leading to costly modifications and program delays.
Dynamiq Engineering employed the most advanced finite element analysis (FEA) based structural dynamic analysis tools available to accurately model the performance of the structure and demonstrate its compliance with the high standards required by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
