Dynamiq Engineering recently completed a project to resolve a complex thermal stress problem with an Advanced Active Pyrolysis machine used to recycle waste metals.  The clients observed that under normal operating conditions the vast machine (about the size of a small house) would undergo severe thermally induced deformation resulting in breach of vacuum seals, structural cracking and fastener failures.

Dynamiq employed a combination of non-linear thermal finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics to determine the temperature distribution through the system and then evaluate the resulting thermal stresses and deformation.  The analysis provided the necessary insight to identify the cause of the failure and recommend and viable design solutions.
