Dynamiq recently completed a program of work investigating Rapid Prototype manufacture of composite materials. Modern Rapid Prototyping techniques have revolutionised prototype development and proof-of-concept model making. However, the low structural strength and modulus of the resins typically available has limited the use of these techniques for the rapid manufacture of 'real' prototype parts for mechanical systems.
One of the areas which has the most potential in this field is the use of Rapid Prototype processes to manufacture composite components, with improved strength, thermal and electrical conductivity and dimensional stability. Dynamiq Engineering recently completed a program of preliminary research in conjunction with a UK University to examine the thermal and structural properties of such materials using advanced non-linear FEA techniques.
